Copyright?

1. Why did the framers include copyright in the Constitution? Why did they think it was necessary at the time?
2. How did Thomas Jefferson influence early copyright philosophy?
3. Both articles talk about copyright's origin as a "balance" between the rights of creators/copyright holders and the public/users, but the articles also explain how that balance has shifted. What are some examples of that shift?

1. The issue of copyright was one of the most lively subjects which the founding fathers dealt with while creating the Constitution of the United States. George Washington believed copyright would enrich political culture by encouraging creativity and promoting enlightened The founding fathers believed copyright encouraged the production and distribution of the raw material of democracy.

2. Jefferson wrote to Madison that he was happy about the nine states ratifying the new Constitution. “It is a good canvass,” Jefferson wrote of Madison’s work, “on which some strokes only want retouching.” Jefferson wanted a Bill of Rights attached to the document. But he also desired an explicit prohibition against monopolies, including those limited and granted by the Constitution patents and copyright. Jefferson believed copyright was flawed because unlike tangible property ideas and expressions are not susceptible to natural scarcity. “Its peculiar character, too, is that no one possesses the less, because every other possesses the whole of it. He
who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me.”

3. The shift has happened because now people have begun to pirate and are very dishonest. It is sad our people have come to this, but it is realistic and we have to face it and stop this epidemic of lying.

Semantic Web

Web 2.0 is not the semantic web. It has its differences such as it is surrounded around being a social thing. The second generation of the web is made for people to collaborate and share information online. The World Wide Web helps people share ideas easily and quickly because as soon as someone posts something online, someone else can read what you have posted. The whole idea behind the second generation of web is not the high technology which it has but rather the end result, which is social interaction and the collaboration of ideas. There are several different social websites such as facebook and myspace and twitter which are prime examples of the 2nd generation web. The biggest misconception these days is that the semantic web and the 2nd generation web is the same thing. But the semantic web is very different. The semantic web is based on machines This kind of web needs a human operator to use computer systems to perform the tasks required to find, search, and aggregate information. It is impossible for a computer to do these tasks without human guidance because web pages are specifically designed for human readers. Most people used Web 2.0 because most people are not looking for complexity online.

Net-Neutrality

Network Neutrality is an idea which says that there should be a neutral broadband network which is free of restrictions on content, sites, or platforms on the kinds of equipment that might be attached. It is basically a concept which says that everything on the internet should be treated equally. This idea did not become popular until the 2000s and concerns of the ability of broadband providers to use their power and influence on the internet to block the content of others, especially competitors. This is a scary concept because it could potentially mean that one broadband provider would have all the control of the internet and we would only get the ideas and opinions from the selected sites. Just last week two senators have agreed to take steps to the legislation which is aimed at helping the advancement of new rules on network neutrality. This bill could be a table which would show the deadline for the Federal Communication Commissions to finish its rule-making process. I think that this would be a good bill because the FCC has taken a very long time to make a decision on their stance about net-neutrality. I have never heard of net-neutrality before but it is a very interesting concept and I think it will become a prominent issue in the coming years.

Colors of the Wind

Colors are very visual and evoke the true feelings from a painting or picture. The main colors are red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. An acronym to remember this order of the rainbow is ROYGBP. R-Starting with red, it can be represented as fire, heat and warmth. Red also means anger generally. Here in the United States religious organizations consider red as a symbol for prostitution and the devil which varies greatly from the commont thought that red is the color of deep devotion and love. O-The color orange is a power color, it is considered one of the healing colors. Orange generaly eveokes the feelings of enthusiasm and creativity. Some beleive that if you wear orange during time of stress it can help you balance your emotions. Y-Yellow is the color of wisdom and and it represents joy and happiness. Yellow brings energy like the warmth of a bright sunny day. People wear yellow to present a cherry uplifting effect. It is good luck to use yellow notepads. B-Blue is the coolest color, it is the color of the sky, ocean, twilight, and and sleep. All of these are very peaceful and and calm. Blue symbolizes the virgin mary. Blue gives a feeling of distance so painters use it to show perspective. P-Purple is the color of good judgment and it is the color of people seeking spiritual fulfillment. purple has been used to symbolize magic, and mystery but also royalty. People of Wal-Mart?

The people of wal-mart is a terrible website. I feel this type of website is hurrendous. I can not put in words how much i hate these kind of websites. There is no person who could honestly look at this and think this is amusing. It is DISGUSTING. There is really no purpose to put picture of these kind of people up on the website. I think that widespread technology is making our society mean. It could be used positively but some people use it to mock other people. It is not the mocking of the people which bothers me. It is the part where people can look at this and find it funny, at the expense of someone is bad but it is even worse that our society has become so open about this. Behind the back talking is bad as well, I am not saying that is acceptable but openly posting it on a website in inexcusable. I think our global community could use this positively by sending people pictures of appropriate things. I think that camera phones could be used well by sending pictures to people who have been away from each other for awhile. It can be used to send pictures to show people where their friends are, for example, take a picture at a concert and send it to a friend and say wish you were here! That is how our society can use their phone cameras positively.

The World Wide Web is a very complex tool but it makes communicatyion so much easier. Most of the 20th century no one had easy quick communication like they do now a day. Once plans were made they had to stay made because you couldn't just call them on their cell phone and change the plans. Technology is a gift but at the same time it is a curse. It is beginning to take over the daily lifes of people which ultimately is making people very bad at face to face communication. Hopefully the interent will not take over the world some day!

Wednesday the 26th is the day of all days

The technology I will be speaking about is the computer mouse. You may not know this but the development of the mouse took place very close to us. Douglas Engelbart was the master mind behind the development of the mouse. He realized in the 1950s he wanted to do more with his life and make definite goals. He went to Cal and after school went to SRI, (right down the street from the very place i sit right now) and began coming up with the idea of the mouse. In the 1960's was when the idea came into a relality. Engelbart wrote Augmenting Human Intellect: A conceptual Framework which got attention and led to funding from Apra. Mr. Engelbart than founded the group ARC at SRI which stands for Augmentation Research Center. In 1970 he recieved a patent for the wooden mouse he devloepd with Bill Enlgish, who was one of the lead engineers. In the late 1970s Englebart became less of a phenomena and drifted off into the oblivion. More engineers continued improving and improvising the mouse.A related technology is a track pad. They are built into laptops in the bottom section. They get some getting used to but once you get the hang of it, they become very easy to use. They are very sensitive pads. Antoher related technology is a mouse which has a ball under it. It makes it easier to move on the desk. The ball is hyper-sensitive so it works very well. There are no certifications for use because using a mouse is simple and you can not really be an expert at using a mouse. My prediction for the future is a very high technology mouse. I beleive it will be floating that is sensitive to touch but not a touchpad. I think a person will be able to tap the mouse a certain amount of times and it will type for you. It will be like a morse code. I hope the mouse becomes a very intricate tool.
AND THAT'S IT FOR THE MOUSE!
